A paedophile bragged to friends about targeting vulnerable underage girls despite being on bail for previous offences.

Ben Dawson spoke to three girls over two years, but two were decoy profiles operated by paedophile hunters who later confronted him.

The 34-year-old repeatedly asked the girls for nude images and videos while also sending them explicit pictures and encouraging them to watch pornography.

But despite being on bail for his earlier offending and being warned by a friend about his actions, Dawson, of West End, Alfreton, continued to prey on young girls and tried to meet them, telling them that he could not have sex with them until they were 18.

Sentencing Dawson to five years in prison at Derby Crown Court, sitting at the Mercure Hotel in Nottingham, on Friday, October 29, Recorder Adrian Reynolds said: "What makes this case particularly serious is, in a nutshell, the determination with which you have continued to offend.

"You had already ignored a specific warning that [one of the girls] was vulnerable and should be left alone. That made no impact..

"Even when you were arrested a second time you continued to offend again. It is of considerable concern to me that you appear to be completely in denial about your sexual attraction to underage girls and you rather see yourself as the victim of all this.

"I don't agree with the defence's submission about that you were insisting that you would not have had sexual intercourse with any of these girls until they are 18. I can't for the life of me think of what other reason you had to meet them other than to engage in sexual intercourse.

"I'm going to pass a fairly substantial prison sentence upon you."

David Outerside, prosecuting, told the court that Dawson's offending began when he started messaging a 15-year-old girl in January 2019, despite being told by a social worker that the girl was vulnerable and at risk of exploitation.

He asked for sexually explicit videos of her and even got his nephew to convince the girl to unblock him on social media when she tried to stop speaking to him.

Dawson, who has a previous conviction for indecent assault, also repeatedly invited her to his house, but she never accepted, before he was arrested in August 2019.

But while this was being investigated, he made contact with a fake profile named Ellie Stevens in February 2020, who was actually a self-styled paedophile hunter posing as a 13-year-old girl.

He messaged the decoy saying "I'm 32 and have my own place" and offered to buy her gaming credits, before starting to talk about sex and having a relationship with her.

He later called her while touching himself and said that she should too, saying that he hoped "you get horny".

The group then contacted police and he was arrested again in April 2020, before being bailed, only for Dawson to then contact a second decoy, posing as a 14-year-old girl called Danni, on March 17 2021..

Despite the fake profile again making her age clear from the start, Dawson bragged about being arrested and said that the investigation was based on fake evidence as his account was hacked.

He admitted that he could "get done" for meeting a girl under the age of 16, and at this point was warned by his friend about his behaviour, but neither stopped him from telling the fake profile that she was "stunning" and that he would have asked her on a date if she was 18.

He repeated his earlier behaviour by sending explicit photos and arranged to meet the girl at Alfreton bus station, sending her links to pornographic websites so that she could "get ideas" in the meantime.

When he went to meet who he thought was Danni, he was confronted by the group and arrested again.

Andrew Fitch-Holland, defending, admitted that the case was "difficult" to defend but said that he did not pose a serious risk.

He said: "It is clear that this defendant is at pains to point out that he has no intention of forcing himself upon anybody and the need of any sexual activity to be postponed until the victim is 18.

"The reality is that Mr Dawson himself is a man with a high degree of vulnerability. He has learning difficulties, he is dyslexic.

"He [Dawson] has a extreme degree of naivety. He seems prepared to disclose the nature of his offending to others in custody.

"The reality is this is a very immature man. His desire to stay at home, locked away playing video games, means he has not been able to engage properly with his offending behaviour."

Alongside his prison sentence, Recorder Reynolds also placed Dawson on the sex offender register for life and gave him an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, and one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child, attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 years, attempting to cause or incite a girl 13-15 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13-15 to watch or look at pornographic images, attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child and attempting to meet a girl under the age of 16 years following grooming.

He must also pay a victim surcharge.

A sex offender who preyed on young women walking alone has been jailed after DNA evidence linked him to the crimes. Reyno Du Toit, from Derby, targeted five women in Nottingham's Park estate in October 2020. He exposed himself to three of them and grabbed two others. The 41-year-old was jailed for two years at Nottingham Crown Court after admitting two counts of sexual assault and three counts of exposure. Nottinghamshire Police said Du Toit, of Goodsmoor Road, Derby exposed himself to three women on the afternoon of 24 October in Rolleston Drive, Harlaxton Drive and Allington Road. Two days later he grabbed two women walking in Lenton Road and Rolleston Drive.

'Despicable offender'

Police said Du Toit was arrested in December after his car was linked to the scene of each offence. He was then confronted with "damning DNA evidence" from the clothes of one victim. "Unbeknown to Du Toit, he had left behind trace DNA evidence on his final victim when he groped her over her clothes," the force said. "The tiny-but-damning sample was retrieved from her jeans." Det Con Fiona McVey called Du Toit a "despicable offender who deliberately targeted lone young women as they walked near their homes". "His offending was clearly escalating in its seriousness and we worked exhaustively to track him down as soon as possible," she said. "Thanks to the work of a highly-motivated team of detectives, the evidence we were later able to confront him with was so detailed and so damning that he really had no choice but to admit to what to had done."

A Derby doctor has been jailed for his attempts to have sex with underage teen girls.

Branded "arrogant" and "hypocritical" by a judge, Dr Jamil Rehman lied repeatedly about a four-hour journey he took with the intention of meeting an underage girl for sex.

The married father-of-two will be in prison for the birth of his third child and is likely to be deported to Pakistan on his release.

The trainee GP was found guilty in August of two counts of attempted sexual grooming of underage girls after travelling from Derby to west Wales to meet a 15-year-old girl called Kayla in 2019.

When he arrived he was met by self-styled paedophile hunters, with red roses and pills designed to delay orgasm found in the boot of his car.

Police also found further messages between the 35-year-old and a 13-year-old girl named Sienna, who was also a decoy.

Rehman, of Gilling Close, Littleover, Derby, claimed that he had no desire to engage in sexual activity and wanted "Kayla" to be his tour guide on his first visit to Wales.

But his defence was labelled as "frankly laughable" and "ludicrous" by Judge Paul Thomas QC at Swansea Crown Court, after Rehman tried to tell the jury that he had mistaken the words "hotel" and "restaurant", despite booking a room with a double bed.

The judge said: "You came to west Wales from the Derby area where you were practicing as a doctor.

"You came down here which, on my calculation, is a four-hour journey for one purpose and that purpose was to have full sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.

"Your intentions were to have sexual intercourse with her.

"You claimed in the course of the trial to be concerned for the welfare of vulnerable girls. You did believe them to be vulnerable, which is why you targeted and attempted to groom them.

"As a man who was training to be a general practitioner, you would have known full well the potential impact of what you attempted to do.

"You were a married man, you simply wanted to use these underage girls for sexual purposes. You did lie about your age online and you did so deliberately."

Rehman was sentenced to 20 months in prison and placed on the Sex Offender's Register for 10 years, with the details of a sexual harm prevention order to be set.

He met who he thought were the underage girls in a chatroom called Meet4U, before having private conversations on WhatsApp.

He then travelled from Derby to Carmarthen, a journey of around 220 miles.

Eugene Egan, defending, told the court that Rehman, who is expecting a third child in December, was in the UK on a work visa and thus will likely have to return to his native Pakistan upon his release.

However he acknowledged that his client had fabricated much of his defence in his trial.

He said: "What he told the jury was concocted and a pack of lies.

"Perhaps for the first time now, on the day of sentencing, there is a genuine acknowledgement of what he has done.

"He has thrown away his career. The consequences for him will be harsh and substantial. He has thrown all that away through gross stupidity on his behalf."

Tracy Harrison, chief executive of Safe and Sound, a Derbyshire charity which supports young people who are victims of child exploitation including online grooming as well as their families, had previously voiced concern over the case.

She said: "This is a deeply disturbing case and highlights the increased dangers facing young people of online grooming.

"This particular case thankfully did not put a young person in danger but, for every instance that a perpetrator is trapped in a sting operation, there are countless others who fall victim to online predators.

A paedophile who groomed and sent explicit images and texts to someone posing as an underage girl has been sentenced.

Mohammed Younis, from Derby, began messaging who he thought was a 14-year-old girl in March, but he was actually contacting a self-styled paedophile hunter who modified their own profile picture to appear much younger.

Younis was arrested by police after being reported by the social media vigilante, and police proved his identity after comparing his Facebook cover photo - a picture of his HMP Nottingham ID card - with his records.

His barrister said that he clearly needed help.

37-year-old Younis offered to “teach” and “train” the pretend teenager how to become “good at sex” while saying that “it would be OK if nobody knows” and encouraging her not to tell her mother, according to prosecutors.

He also groomed the young girl by offering to buy her jewellery and chocolates.

Mark Achurch, prosecuting, told Derby Crown Court on Wednesday, August 11, how Younis said to the ‘girl’ that he wanted to marry her, have a baby with her and create a pornographic film with her.

The court also heard how the defendant committed the offences while on licence after being released from prison following a previous conviction for unrelated offences.

He is also awaiting trial for exposing himself to a prison officer while in custody in Nottingham.

He was sentenced to four years in prison after earlier pleading guilty to three counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, and two counts of attempting to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity.

Recorder Balraj Bhattia said: “You genuinely believed that you were liaising with a girl that you knew was 14 years of age.

“The nature of the conversations that you had with her were explicit and I have no doubt that you believed or intended to carry out these assertions made by you.

“You encouraged her, or incited her, to perform oral sex on you, to have sexual intercourse with you, telling her that although it may be painful to start off with she would get used to it.

“I take the view that this is a serious example of that type of offending.”

Steven Gosnell, defending Younis, admitted that “there is clearly grooming here” and that the defendant “says this part of his life was chaotic to say the least”.

“He does not excuse what he did in any way,” Mr Gosnell said.

“He is clearly someone that wants help, he is clearly someone who needs help.”

This is the face of a Derbyshire rapist who took advantage of a young woman - paralytic on drink and drugs - to sexually attack her.

A judge told Simon Sowden what he did to the brave victim was "a horrific incident" for her.

In her own victim impact statement she told how she did not even want to look at herself in the mirror because of what the 32-year-old did to her.

She and her family showed huge courage to come to Derby Crown Court earlier this week to see Sowden jailed for 10 years and nine months.

But her attacker could not even begin to muster the same courage, choosing instead to turn away from the public gallery and shield his face from her during the hearing.

Now, after consulting with the victim, Derbyshire police has released a custody photograph of Sowden.

Sarah Phelan, prosecuting, said the sex attack happened in the early hours of the morning one day in April 2019.

She said Sowden met the victim in a pub in Chesterfield and the two of them drank heavily and took cocaine.

Miss Phelan said: "He took advantage of her when she was heavily intoxicated, took her back to his flat under the guise of protecting her when she was paralytic through drink and drugs and was not capable of consenting.

"Two taxis refused to take them and it was only a third taxi, driven by a female, who was prepared to take them.

"They arrived at his flat and she recalls taking her false eyelashes off.

"She said she then recalls feeling she was being (touched sexually) and then felt him inside her and could hear him moaning and breathing.

"She got to the bathroom, grabbed her things and left.

"There is CCTV of her trying to flag down an ambulance."

Miss Phelan said the victim rushed home and told her mother she had been raped and the police were called.

She said the defendant was arrested at around 9.45am in a van in Chesterfield and answered "no comment" to questions he was asked in two police interviews.

Sowden, of Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, pleaded guilty to rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault but only on the day his trial was due to begin.

A warped University of Derby lecturer manipulated and fantasised over pictures of students and staff he had downloaded from their social media accounts.

Pervert Thomas Dodsley superimposed images of genitalia over their photos and created text boxes accompanied with captions featuring obscene messages.

One of the lewd images included wording that read: "look into my eyes, Mr Dodsley".

Over a six-year period, the married 34-year-old also downloaded just short of 3,000 sick child abuse images, including infants being raped.

And police found vile footage on his laptops, including humans engaged in sexual acts with animals.

Jailing him for a year at Derby Crown Court, Judge Shaun Smith QC said: "At the time you were caught you were a lecturer in criminology at the University of Derby.

"You had been there for three years and previously to that you were involved in youth work.

"You have, it is true, some significant personal mitigation in what you have done since you were caught.

"But I emphasise 'since you were caught' as the author of your (pre-sentence) report is of the opinion you would have carried on if you had not been caught."

Eunice Opare-Addo, prosecuting, said police executed a warrant at Dodsley's address in Grosvenor Avenue, Breaston, at 6.50am on September 1 last year.

She said his wife answered the door and the defendant appeared a short while later.

Miss Opare-Addo said laptops and other electronic devices were seized and analysed.

She said on them were 62 category A movies or images which is the most serious category, 70 category B, 2,842 category C, five prohibited images and 16 extreme pornographic images.

Miss Opare-Addo said: "On a USB stick were photos of past and present Derby University students and staff which appeared to have been obtained from social media.

"Some of them had genitalia and text superimposed over them with one saying 'look into my eyes, Mr Dodsley'."

The defendant pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, possession of prohibited images and possession of extreme pornography between March 24, 2014 and September 1, 2020.

His barrister, also called Sean Smith, said: "He has already been addressing his offending by completing an accredited programme which included behavioural therapy."

In a statement, a spokesperson for the University of Derby said: The University was unaware of any allegations or concerns in relation to this individual until he appeared in court to enter his plea.

"He is no longer employed by us, having left his role in March this year.

As well as the jail sentence, Judge Smith made Dodsley sign on the sex offender register for 10 years and handed him a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.

He also banned him from working with children for the same amount of time.

Jamie Woodland had horrific images on his mobile.

A Derbyshire man was caught with horrific images of young children being abused on his mobile phone.

Dozens of indecent images were found on the device by police in March this year after they took possession of a phone belonging to Jamie Woodland.

These included some of the very worst type of child abuse images, including ones showing children thought to be between the ages of three and five being raped.

Derby Crown Court was told on Thursday, May 20, that by possessing the mobile phone and by deleting images on a device, the 29-year-old was in breach of an existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

That order was given to him at Sheffield Crown Court in 2018, when he was jailed after spending months of sending sexualised messages to an undercover police officer who he thought was a teenager.

Sarah Allen, prosecuting, told the court, that the father-of-two had not told police he had bought a new phone in December last year.

"That was handed to the police by his girlfriend after his arrest," she said.

She said police had found 70 Category A images on the device - the worst type of abuse images.

These included images of girls aged between three and five years old being raped and abused.

The phone also had 17 Category B images showing children between the ages of six and 12, and 83 Category C images.

"He denied he had seen any of the images on the mobile phone, he said he had purchased it and forgotten he had had it," Ms Allen said.

"In August 2018 he was sentenced for two counts of attempting to cause a child to watch sexual activity. He was made the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

"The police report confirms that he had deleted images from one of the mobile phones on March 10."

Woodland, of Shuttlewood Road, Bolsover, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child, and two breaches of a SHPO.

Katrina Wilson, mitigating, said her client has two children with his ex-girlfriend, with another on the way, and he is keen to maintain contact.

"This is a situation where denials were made at interview - the [guilty] plea was entered at the first chance before your honour," she said.

 "He is still a relatively young man. He has committed these offences, he accepts he has a sentence to serve as a result of that.

"His father is currently in hospital having been put in a coma and being in critical care. Mr Woodland has only just come into that information.

"Prior to his remand he had been diagnosed with depression and anxiety. The best that can be said for is that he is trying to make the best of his time in custody."

Judge Shaun Smith said while Woodland had shown remorse, the images found on the phone had been "particularly disgusting" with some involving very young children.

Jailing Woodland for 13 months, he said: "You know there are very real victims in relation to these images. It's a deliberate breach by you."

A Derby man who has been found guilty of raping a young woman while taking her home from a party has been jailed.

Sudesh Kumar, of Carsington Crescent, Allestree, had been accused of raping the victim in his car after leaving a party at the pub where he worked as a manager in August 2018.

During the trial, Derby Crown Court heard the victim woke up the next morning and "felt something was wrong", before telling her mother who called the police.

The 41-year-old was charged after forensic experts found traces of his semen on the complainant's tampon.

Kumar, who was known to many as Bobby, denied any wrongdoing, but was found guilty of rape by a jury at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday, March 16.

Over the course of the trial, the court heard how the woman, who is in her 20s, had spent the afternoon and evening drinking at the Pear Tree Inn, in Derby, where Kumar worked as a pub manager on August 3, 2018.

Following this, the woman, Kumar and other people went to a house party in Sunny Hill in the early hours of next morning.

Opening the trial last week, Jonathon Dee, prosecuting, told the hearing the Crown's case is that Kumar raped the drunk young woman as he gave her a lift home from the party in Sunny Hill.

He said the prosecution say he took advantage of the complainant's state to carry out the sex attack wich she cannot remember owing to how much alcohol she had drunk.

During the trial, the jury heard testimony from one witness who saw Sudesh offer to take the woman home and the last time she had seen the victim was when she left in his car.

The trial heard the victim said the last thing she remembered was playing with the dogs belonging to the host of the party, before waking up in her home the next morning.

She sensed something was wrong and told her mother, who rang the police. When Kumar was linked to semen found on the woman's tampon, he was spoken to by police.

Mr Dee, prosecuting, said: "He was interviewed about the matter three months later and gave a prepared statement. Basically it said 'I took her home, I did not rape her, I did not do anything to her'."

He said Kumar claimed he had touched himself sexually while at the party in Sunny Hill and one explanation may be his semen transferred from hand-to-hand.

Kumar's denial meant the victim was forced to take to the stand to give evidence before the jury.

When being cross-examined by Kumar's defence barrister Alisdair Smith, the victim said Kumar had a history groping her.

Mr Smith said to her: "You said in your police interview Bobby must have had something to do with it.

"You said he was 'a bit touchy-feely' and touched your bottom sometimes in the pub. I am going to suggest to you that is not something he did."

She replied: "He did."

However, the jury spent eight hours and 59 minutes deliberating before returning a majority verdict he was guilty.

He was sentenced by Recorder Adrian Reynolds to eight years imprisonment and ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely, immediately after the verdict was announced.

This Derby rapist filmed himself subjecting a woman to a horrific three-hour ordeal of sexual assaults.

Matthew Hemmings used a variety of sex toys on the woman who he handcuffed, trussed up, humiliated and degraded at his city centre flat.

The 41-year-old later told police "I worry about myself sometimes" when they discovered his hideous recordings of the disgusting abuse.

The prosecutor at Derby Crown Court called the case "the most extreme rape" he had ever dealt with in court.

And even the defendant's own barrister described what his client did as "a catalogue of horrors".

Jailing Hemmings for 20 years and six months, Judge Nirmal Shant QC, Derby's most senior judge, said: "In every way possible you humiliated her and recorded what you were doing to her over a prolonged period of some three hours.

"You targeted her because she was vulnerable, approaching her she lay in the doorway of a shop and enticing her back to your flat.

"(There) you had laid out sex toys and outfits on your bed your had bought from Amazon.

"She was vulnerable and a heavy Mamba user and once inside your flat you took photos of her and recorded her.

"You raped and sexually assaulted her while she was helpless. There was a pause and you re-emerged in a full face mask and with a machete.

"Mercifully you did not use it on her, but one cannot imagine how frightening an incident this was."

James Varley, prosecuting, said the sex attacks took place at the defendant's flat, in Carrington Street, on November 24.

He said Hemmings filmed the woman as she lay in the doorway of a city centre shop and then coaxed her to his address with the promise of warmth and shelter.

Mr Varley then went on to describe some of the acts he forced her to do for him and on him while he recorded and photographed it.

Most are too shocking for publication.

He said: "I would say this is the most extreme rape I have ever prosecuted, it was an ordeal that went on for three hours.

"After his arrest the defendant even told the police 'I worry about myself sometimes'. It was clearly degrading, it was prolonged, he filmed it and violence was threatened.

"It involved a number of sex toys which he had laid out on a bed and on his own account she was particularly vulnerable."

Mr Varley said at one stage the victim had handcuffs put on her from behind by Hemmings, after encouraging her to smoke more drugs.

He said: "She was incapacitated, that must have been terrifying, he used her as he pleased."

Mr Varley said at the end of the poor woman's ordeal, the defendant let her out in the street where she was found by a support worker "walking around in circles crying".

Hemmings was arrested and the videos he made of his sex attacks were discovered by the police.

He told them the victim was "compliant throughout". But he later pleaded guilty to rape and sexual assault.

He has no previous convictions of any kind.

William Bennett, mitigating, said his client had pleaded guilty and spared the victim having to come to court and relive her ordeal at trial.

He said: "Any right-thinking person will say this is a catalogue of horrors."

The victim is afforded lifetime anonymity.

Hemmings' sentence is made up of a minimum of 13-and-a-half years custody and an extended licence of a further seven years.

He will be on the sex offender register for life.

A Derbyshire man has been jailed for 16 years after committing a string of vile sexual offences against young girls.

Ryan Chadwick, of College Street, Long Eaton, committed the crimes against three girls aged under 16 in the town over the course of several months.

The 23-year-old was arrested and brought before the court, which was told he met the first victim over social media.

He began by speaking to the young teenager on Snapchat in February 2020 and offered her money for sex. He then met up with her and had sex with her twice.

He then went onto assault another girl who was under the age of 13, and attempted to rape her twice in May 2020.

Shortly after this he had sex with a third underage girl on two occasions.

Chadwick admitted to numerous offences at a prior hearing, and was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to several counts of assault by penetration and sexual activity with a child, two counts of inciting a child into sexual activity, two counts of attempted rape of a child, and paying for the sexual services of a child.

He was jailed for 16 years, and must serve a minimum of two thirds, and was given an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order stopping him from having any contact with any girl under the age of 16.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offender register for life and banned from ever working with children.

Detective Constable Claire McKeown, who led the investigation into Chadwick, said he had shown no remorse.

"I cannot give praise enough to the three girls in this case, who came forward and bravely spoke about their individual ordeals at the hands of Chadwick," she said.

"This sentencing reflects the seriousness of Chadwick's crimes, for which he showed no remorse, and I am hopeful that it will give some closure to each of the girls whose lives have been turned upside down as a result.

"My message to anyone reading this who may have also suffered sexual assault or abuse, whether now or in the past, is please speak to someone. There is help available, whether you wish to involve the police or not.

"If you do feel able to contact us, we will always listen, investigate and support you through the process."

A sex offender who was snared by online paedophile hunters has found himself in prison for not telling the police where he was living.

Derby Crown Court heard how Connor Burdett was made to sign the sex offender register after being cautioned by the police for attempting to engage in sexual communication with an underage girl.

Under its terms he was supposed to go to the police station within three days of moving and register his address with the force.

But the 28-year-old failed to do that, was later arrested, charged and has been at Nottingham prison since October.

Judge Shaun Smith QC, jailing him for 35 days over a video-link, said: Mr Burdett, you have really got to start taking responsibility.

You are someone that seems to think you dont have to do what you do have have to do.

Well you do and when you leave prison today you will have to go to a police station within three days and tell them where you are living.

Do you understand that?

Burdett replied: Yes.

Judge Smith said: Because if you dont you will have to go back to prison for longer. Where are you going when you leave prison today?

Burdett replied: Im going to the cop shop then I am going to my mums house.

Judge Smith said: What happens if you move away from living at your mums house? What do you have to do?

Burdett replied: I have got to go to the police station and tell them of my whereabouts.

The convicted child sex offender and former football coach Barry Bennell has been jailed for an additional four years as he was sentenced over sexual abuse for a fifth time, reports Daniel Taylor. Bennell was already serving a 31-year prison sentence relating to his time as a coach and talent spotter for Crewe Alexandra and, previously, Manchester City. Who is Bennell? Bennell, also known as Richard Jones, coached numerous teams in Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire and had almost a quarter of a century working in football, including seven-year associations with Manchester City and Crewe. Why was he back in court? Bennell, 66, had pleaded guilty to three counts of buggery and six counts of indecent assault at an earlier hearing. The offences happened between 1979 and 1988 when the victims were aged between 11 and 14. On Thursday he appeared via videolink from HMP Littlehey in Cambridgeshire, where he is serving his life sentence. Judge Patrick Thompson said the sentence would be served consecutively to his current prison term, meaning a total sentence of 34 years in custody, with an additional two years on licence. Judge Thompson told Bennell: You were a parents worst nightmare. What else do I need to know? A police document shows that detectives investigating the Bennell case privately suspected Crewe officials must have known about the crimes that led to him being branded in court as a child abuser on an industrial scale. As Bennell faces up to the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison, The Athletic can reveal that the police spotlight was also on Crewe over suspicions that people at the club knew Bennell was a potential danger to young boys. What is Crewes response? Crewe were contacted by The Athletic on Tuesday but have declined to comment. Crewe have always denied any knowledge of his crimes but police correspondence makes it clear for the first time that at least one senior member of the serious-crime unit investigating Bennell found it difficult to believe a club of that size knew nothing about it.

A former Burton gym instructor has been jailed after raping a woman three times.

Braden Rae admitted three counts of rape in Burton when he appeared before Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday, June 11.

The court heard the 44-year-old, a former gym instructor in Burton now living in Derbyshire, raped his victim twice in 2014, then again 2015.

The woman later confided in a friend before making a report to police officers.

Rae, now of Lace Maker's Close, Borrowash, Derbyshire, has been jailed for eight years after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing at the court.

Detective Constable Amy Gathergood, of Staffordshire Police, said: "The bravery of the witness in coming forward to the police has led to Braden Rae's jail term.

"We will always do whatever it takes to bring offenders to justice, while ensuring victims and their families are offered the support they need."

A manipulative and controlling paedophile maths teacher subjected two female pupils to a shocking catalogue of sexual abuse. Pervert Tobias Yates' vile offending saw him groom the teenagers and engage in sexual activity with them in the classroom at Chellaston Academy, where he worked for eight years. Both victims showed incredible bravery to stand up at Derby Crown Court, face their abuser and tell the hearing of the devastating effect his crimes have had on them. His actions left one of them feeling betrayed and broken while the other said I truly believed he loved me and it was okay, but it was not okay as I was a child and he was a paedophile. A catalogue of perversion The court heard that the 31-year-old father-of one, from Stenson Fields, had: - Filmed himself having sex with one of the victims. - Exchanged 250,000 messages with one of the teens. - Demanded they both send him explicit photographs to him, including one of them dressed in her school uniform. - Kept sex toys in his desk at the Swarkestone Road school. - Touched one of the girls sexually at the back of class while a trainee teacher taught the other pupils in the same room. - Collected one of the girls from her home and made her hide in the footwell of his car to make sure no-one saw them together before driving her to his home for sex. - Gave one victim with childrens underwear for much younger girls which had cartoon characters on them. - Made one of the girls call him Daddy and Sir to satisfy his warped fetish. Yates, of Merevale Way, Stenson Fields, stared intently forward during the hearing, refusing to glance at the victims or their family members who sat in the packed public gallery. When he arrived in the dock from custody into courtroom four, one of them even bravely moved seats to get a better view of her abuser. In her victim impact statement she said: I have lost my carefree childhood. It started in the classroom a place where I should have been safe. I truly believed he loved me and it was okay. But it was not okay because I was a child and he was a paedophile. Reading out her statement, the second girl said: I feel completely betrayed and broken. I lost two stone in weight and hours of sleep because of nightmares. I feel disgusted with myself and I have a fairly negative view of myself. It all happened during my GCSEs and I think about what my results would have been if I had the chance to focus instead of being consumed by him. 'Manipulative and depraved' Jailing Yates for 10 years and six months, Judge Robert Egbuna told him his behaviour was manipulative and depraved. He said: They had come to you to seek help at a vulnerable time in their lives and you robbed both children of their innocence. You portrayed yourself as a friend and companion but preyed on them time and time again. You are an astute man that had an armoury which you used to abuse and groom their frailties. And you made these girls feel they were to blame for your behaviour. You knew what you were doing was wrong, you knew they were vulnerable and you simply did not care. 'Protracted grooming' Jonathan Straw, prosecuting, said Yates worked as a maths teacher and form tutor at Chellaston Academy for eight years when the first allegations were made known to the police. He said the publicity from that saw the second victim come forward to describe what happened to her. Mr Straw said: This was the sexual abuse of two young, vulnerable girls, each of whom was the subject of protracted grooming, manipulation and extensive control. He preyed on the innocence of teenage vulnerability and, having gained their trust, he began to control each girl, infiltrating their everyday lives over time expressly for his own sexual gain. What did he admit? Yates pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15; sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 when he was abusing a position of trust; causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13-17; possessing extreme pornographic images, and making indecent images of a child. In August last year, he pleaded guilty to inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity while he was in a position of trust. He also admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children. He had two of category A, the most serious type, two of category B and 83 of category C. James Varley, mitigating, said: He was an adult who abused the trust of two young girls and we have heard the impact that has on them today. In a letter, Mr Yates apologises for what he has done and he has come to realise the damage he has caused. As unpleasant and disturbing as case this is, he is not going to be in this kind of position again. The identities of both victims are protected by law. A statement from Chellaston Academy reads: One of our former members of staff, Toby Yates, contravened all professional teacher standards and has today been sentenced for his actions at Derby Crown Court. At Chellaston Academy our students safety and well-being is of paramount importance to us and we continue to work with appropriate agencies and the local authority to ensure our safeguarding protocols and procedures are robust. As well as prison, Yates was handed a sexual harm prevention order and was placed on the sex offenders register for life.

A sex offender groped a naked woman at a house in Derby just three months after being released from prison for carrying out the exact same offence.

Derby Crown Court heard how Edward Felix “took advantage of the situation” when he sexually assaulted his latest victim at a property in Darley Abbey.

The 39-year-old, who was previously jailed for touching a different victim and taking photographs of her private parts, then “pretended to fall asleep”.

His latest victim, who suffers anxiety, left the property immediately and Felix then sent a text message the following morning apologising for what he did.

She now locks the door to her own home when she is left alone there and has increased her medication, the hearing was told.

'Back to your old ways'

Jailing Felix for 18 months, Judge Shaun Smith QC said: “In March 2018 you were released from a custodial sentence which was imposed for offences of voyeurism, sexual assault and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and, within three months, you were back to your old ways again.

“This woman was at that house and felt ill.

“She was in a room under the covers and naked and you took advantage of the situation.

“You started by stroking her hair, moved your hand up to her rib cage and then she was aware of you groping her left breast.

“She moved away but you stroked her stomach and then moved your hand towards her genital area.

“She had the presence of mind to ask you what you were doing and, instead of apologising, you pretended to fall asleep.

“She wanted to leave and went to a friend's house. The following morning, you admitted you stroked her in places you should not have stroked her.

“You sent a text message saying you were sorry.”

Sarah Slater, prosecuting, said the offence took place in June of last year at a property in Darley Abbey.

She said Felix, of Cropper Lane, Oslaston, Ashbourne, had been out drinking and a number of people then found their way back to the address.

While there, the victim began feeling ill and so went to one of the rooms, undressed and got into bed.

Miss Slater said Felix entered the room, got under the covers and started stroking the woman’s hair.

Cupped her breast

She said: “He put his hand under the duvet and she felt him direct his hand to her rib cage and then cup her left breast.

“She did not know what to do and so moved away but then felt his hand on her stomach and then moved down towards her pubic area.

“She said to him ‘what are you doing?’ and he pretended to fall asleep.”

Miss Slater said the woman left the property and, the following morning, Felix sent a text message which read “I really am so sorry”.

In a victim personal statement, the woman told how she feels “jumpy and dirty” if someone touches her and locks all of the doors at her own property when her boyfriend is not in.

Felix was arrested and at first denied anything had happened at the house in Darley Abbey.

But he later pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault.

Miss Slater said he was jailed for 22 months in March 2017 after taking intimate photographs of a woman’s private parts and showing them to his friends.

Julia King, mitigating, said her client was back living with his parents and has admitted himself to Aquarius, which is based in London Road, Derby, and helps people with alcohol and drugs issues.

She said: “Without minimising the seriousness of the offence, there is no significant planning and no violence was involved.

“He has reached the realisation he has a real problem which he needs to address.”

Judge Smith said although the probation service recommended Felix would benefit from a three-year community order, which was also urged on him by Miss King, he would be “failing in his public duty” if he did not send him into immediate custody.

He also placed him on the sex offender’s register for 10 years and handed him a 10-year restraining order not to contact the victim directly or indirectly.
