Description

A sex offender who preyed on young girls and plied his victims with cigarettes, alcohol and money has been jailed.

Derek Lamond, 59, raped one victim and attempted to rape another during a campaign of abuse that spanned more than 20 years.

The former farmworker also offered the girls cash to expose themselves to him.

Lamond's crime spree began in 1995 and continued until 2017.

He has now been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Lamond targeted his victims at addresses in Fife as well as during car journeys elsewhere in Scotland.

A court heard how one of the girls was aged just four when the abuse began.

Lamond was said to have assaulted and raped her in a parked car when she was aged between seven and 10.

The second victim was preyed upon from the age of seven and suffered an attempted rape attack during an assault at a house.

Lamond denied any wrongdoing when interviewed by police, stating: "I think it has all been made up."

However, Lamond was last month convicted of 10 offences following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh.

His crimes included assault and rape, assault and attempted rape, sexual assault, indecent assault, and lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour.

Child victims affected 'well into adulthood'

Judge Lord Renucci stated: "The harm you have caused to the complainers has continued to affect them well into adulthood.

"This is your third conviction for sexual offences - with your continued denials I am satisfied that the risk you pose is significant.

"You continue to deny the offences. You continue to blame your victims and suggest that their actions were motivated by financial gain.

"There is no alternative to a custodial sentence and given the nature of the offences it must be a lengthy custodial sentence."

'Abhorrent campaign of abuse'

Lamond was handed a 15-year extended sentence - with 12 years in jail and three years on licence once released back into the community - on his return to the dock for sentencing on Wednesday.

He was also added to the sex offenders' register indefinitely.

Katrina Parkes, Scotland's procurator fiscal for high court sexual offending, said: "Derek Lamond manipulated and exploited these young children in an abhorrent campaign of abuse.

"His victims have shown great courage and strength by coming forward and reporting him to the authorities."

Detective Constable Emma Moyes added: "Derek Lamond will now face the consequences of his appalling and predatory behaviour."

Description

A former professional footballer who admitted the serious sexual assault of a child and possession of thousands of indecent images of children has been jailed for four years.

Ian Heddle, 61, originally from Dunfermline, was charged after being caught with more than 270,000 indecent photos and videos.

A police investigation led to him being further charged with the sexual assault of a child, believed to be aged about eight, in Thailand.

Heddle was a midfielder for a number of Scottish clubs in the 1980s and 90s, including St Johnstone and Dunfermline Athletic.

The High Court in Glasgow previously heard he was arrested at Edinburgh Airport last year as he prepared to fly to his home in Thailand.

He had been linked to the viewing and uploading of child abuse material from the web at a property he used in Scotland when was not in the Far East.

Judge John McCormick noted that Heddle, who was staying in Dunfermline at the time of his arrest, was a first offender but said he was satisfied an extended sentence had to be imposed.

As well as the jail term, Heddle will be supervised for a further two years on his release and will be on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

Heddle's KC, Brian McConnachie, had told the judge that his client had a "willingness to seek treatment".

The advocate added an organisation Heddle had been dealing with described him as "wrapped in guilt and shame" at what he had done.

Mr McConnachie said: "He acknowledges the significant adverse impact on the child involved."

After Heddle was sentenced, Det Insp Adrian Ure of Police Scotland's National Child Abuse Investigations Unit said: “Heddle’s behaviour was deplorable with no thought to the young child he sexually assaulted or the victims depicted in the images and videos he was viewing.

“His sentencing sends a clear message that anyone found guilty of these offences will be brought to justice.”

Description

Two men who drugged, raped and murdered a young father-of-four have been jailed for life.

Dylan Brister and Cameron Allan spiked Calum Simpsons drink with Etizolam and bound his wrists with rope at a flat in Methil, Fife, before filming their "depraved" attack on a mobile phone.

Mr Simpson, 24, whose youngest child was born just 11 days previously, later died from intoxication caused by the combination of the class C drug and alcohol.

Brister, 28, who also admitted attacking two police officers, was told he will serve a minimum of 23 years, while Allan, 21, received a 19-year sentence after both were earlier found guilty of sexual assault, rape and murder.

Sentencing at the High Court in Dundee, judge Lord Harrower told the pair they had caused "terrible devastation to Mr Simpsons family.

He said: "There are so many milestones in the childrens lives that their father will no longer be able to share for reasons that cannot adequately be explained to them.

"No sentence of this court can alleviate the familys grief and anguish."

The court heard the pair had been attempting to recruit a man to make up a threesome using the dating app Grindr, but their efforts had failed.

Mr Simpson had been with a friend before accompanying him to the flat on 3 November 2021.

His friend had later departed, leaving Mr Simpson alone with Brister and Allan.

Brister, who had won more than 20,000 gambling, had purchased 1,000 tablets of Etizolam, also known as "street valium," which he claimed he thought were diazepam.

The court was told the sedative was up to 10 times stronger than regular valium.

Brister had previously spiked the drink of one woman and placed tablets in the mouth of another without her consent.

Mr Simpson was rendered unconscious by the combination of the tablets and alcohol.

Allan claimed Mr Simpson had been conscious and consenting when he was tied up by the pair, but acknowledged they had continued their attack after he passed out.

The pair filmed several videos of their assault on a mobile phone, which were later deleted but officers from Police Scotlands specialist cybercrime unit were able to retrieve the footage.

During the earlier trial, Brister told the court: "I won't dispute the fact that Calum passed out and we carried on. I didn't spike that boy, but yes, I gave him drugs.

"We raped him and continued to have sex. It is what it is, disgusting. It should never have happened. I am not going to make excuses."

Allan, meanwhile, said he was disgusted that the videos were taken, but said he "did not know he was doing something wrong at the time.

After their attack, the pair left Mr Simpson unconscious before going to sleep. In the morning they found him cold and rigid.

However, before contacting the emergency services, the pair first concealed what remained of their drugs in a safe and handed it to a neighbour.

Ambulance personnel were called at 12:03 and confirmed Mr Simpson had died.

'Wicked recklessness'

During the trial, Brister said he suffered from complex post-traumatic stress disorder and a personality disorder, and received anti-psychotic medication.

Allan said he was diagnosed with an attachment disorder after watching his mother die in a car accident when he was three.

In addition to their sentences, both men were placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.

During sentencing, Lord Harrower said: "Whether or not you intended to kill Calum Simpson, you each revealed yourselves to be completely indifferent as to whether he lived or died.

"As a result, the jury would have been entitled to conclude that you displayed such a degree of wicked recklessness that what you did amounted to murder."

Lord Harrower excluded the jury from further service for life due to the evidence seen.

Moira Orr, who leads on homicide and major crime for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), said: "The depraved and predatory actions of Dylan Brister and Cameron Allan have robbed a family of their loving son, father, partner, nephew and grandson.

They showed a blatant disregard for their victims safety and life by spiking his drink with drugs before subjecting him to the most harrowing sexual abuse."

Description

A sleazy bus driver sat a 15-year-old girl on his lap and carried out sex acts with her while he was driving a late night passenger bus.

Paedophile driver Christopher McIntosh, 38, hit speeds of nearly 50 miles per hour as he crossed Fife with the vulnerable teenager sitting on him.

A court was shown footage from the internal bus camera which showed McIntosh and the girl cramped in together in the driver's cab during a two hour journey.

Dundee Sheriff Court was shown 16 minutes of clips from the journey which revealed that they were also using a mobile phone while McIntosh was at the wheel.

The court heard that McIntosh was driving late night buses for Moffat and Williamson between St Andrews and Glenrothes when he would meet the girl.

During the course of several journeys - when there were no other passengers on board - they would engage in sexual activity while McIntosh was driving.

McIntosh, from Dundee, admitted engaging in sexual activity during the course of a number of journeys between 20 March and 10 April last year. He admitted kissing and embracing the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, during repeated sexual trysts.

He was also found guilty after a trial of driving the number 64 double decker bus carelessly on various roads around Fife on 10 April 2023. He was found to have driven with a child in the driver's seat alongside him, with his arm around the child, and while repeatedly looking at a mobile phone.

Fiscal depute Michael Robertson told the court: "The CCTV is from an older bus and is not the best of quality, but there is a 16-minute video clip.

"The Crown have libelled that the accused drove dangerously as a child was sitting in the driver's seat alongside the accused, who had an arm round the child, and repeatedly looked at a mobile phone whilst driving.

"You can see the accused driving with a female passenger in the cab while he was in his official capacity working as a bus driver. You can see the illumination of the mobile phone.

"The Crown argue that there are risks to driving a large vehicle while using a mobile phone, whether there are passengers or not.

"Looking at a mobile phone is a distraction and a risk and having a passenger in the cab whilst driving the bus is a risk. The Crown submit it is dangerous."

Solicitor Larry Flynn, defending, said: "There is no argument that he was the driver. The driving was captured on CCTV."

McIntosh was charged with dangerous driving, but found guilty of the lesser charge of careless driving. Sheriff John Rafferty said the quality of the driving was unclear from the CCTV.

He deferred sentence on McIntosh for the preparation of social work reports and added his details to the Sex Offenders Register. He was granted bail.

It is understood McIntosh was well aware of the girl's age because she had initially shown her child's identity card to obtain free travel on the bus.
