A rapist who sent a text message to his victim after the crime to say he was sorry has been jailed for ten years.

Jordan Doughty, 33, texted, sorry about that mate, shortly after raping the woman at his then home in Woolpack Lane, Whittlesey, during the early hours of 26 January, 2020.

Doughty had taken the victim there after they left a bar in Peterborough at about 1.30am.

Shortly after arriving, the victim fell asleep on a sofa, but awoke to find Doughty lying next to her, forcefully groping her.

She immediately pushed his hand away and told him to stop, however, Doughty ignored her and continued to sexually assault her.

The victim, who was frozen with fear, was then raped by Doughty and when the ordeal stopped, he got off from the sofa and said, come on, sort yourself out.

The distraught victim collected her belongings and ran to her car, which had been parked nearby.

While sat inside, she called a friend to say what had happened, but as she was so upset, she couldnt talk for long.

The victim drove home and at about 5am, she received the apology text from Doughty.

She contacted a friend who immediately came to her aid and the police were called.

The victim told officers it was not the first time Doughty had raped her, with another offence three years previous. Officers arrested him at his home a few hours later.

Following a trial last year, Doughty, of Farm Road, Boston, was found guilty of two counts of rape and assault by penetration.

On Thursday (21 March), at Cambridge Crown Court, Doughty was sentenced to ten years in prison.

A registered sex offender who breached a court order by communicating with a girl and deleting his internet history has been jailed.

Alan Stokes, 42, was visited by officers at his home in Willonholt, Ravensthorpe, Peterborough, on 6 September last year and during the routine visit, they checked his mobile phone after he told them he had been speaking to a female on Whatsapp.

The phone was seized and the female discovered to be a child.

Stokes had sent messages to the girl, who had confirmed she was a child, between June and August last year.

He also tried to communicate with her through a webcam.

When Stokes was arrested on 30 October, he had hidden a mobile phone under a pillow and another under his mattress.

Both phones were seized and it was found he had deleted 2324 items from one phone’s internet history. 

Communicating with a girl under 18 and deleting internet history put Stokes in breach of two conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which was imposed at Peterborough Crown Court in March 2015 for previous breaches of orders.

Yesterday (17 January), at the same court, Stokes was jailed for 22 months, having pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two breaches of his SHPO.

DC Claire Cummings, from the force’s management of sexual offenders team, said: “Stokes is a danger to children and we will always enforce SHPOs and make sure sex offenders are abiding by their conditions. 

“This sentence sends out a clear message that we will look to protect children and the vulnerable from harm.”

A previously registered sex offender who was caught performing a sexual act on himself in the presence of children in Peterborough city centre has been jailed.

Gary Smith, 50, who was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years in December 2013 after being convicted of indecent exposure, is subject of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) banning him from certain public areas.

Police were called at 2.15pm on 14 May by a member of the public in Peterborough Cathedral’s green area, reporting seeing a man watching children while performing a sexual act on himself.

A description of the man was given to officers who identified him as potentially being Smith, and immediately deployed to the area.

Smith had begun walking towards the St Johns Street area but returned to the cathedral grounds a short while later, prompting a further call to police reporting the man’s movements.

Officers found Smith hiding behind a gravestone, lying on the ground, and arrested him for indecent exposure and breaching a CBO.

In 2019, Smith was jailed for a year after being convicted of outraging public decency and was made subject of a ten-year CBO which states he must:

• Not go within 200 metres of a swimming pool or leisure centre
• Not go within 100 metres of any school or college
• Not attend areas of public parks or gardens

Smith, of no fixed address, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court today (Thursday) where he was sentenced to 19 months in prison after previously admitting outraging public decency and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.

A 50-year-old sex offender has been jailed 30 years after he abused two girls.

Glen Johnson, of Waltham Close in Peterborough, abused the girls in the 1990s. He also ill-treated four children during the same timeframe, court heard.

He was arrested in 2020 and, in police interview, admitted the abuse but claimed he didn't know why he had done it.

Det Sgt Rebecca Welberry, described the abuse as "traumatic" for the victims.

Johnson admitted four counts of child cruelty and three counts of indecent assault on a child and was jailed for four years and two months at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday.

He was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life, given restraining orders against his victims indefinitely and also handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for life.

A Cambridgeshire sex offender who "failed to learn his lesson" was caught with more indecent images of children.

Police officers who visited Aaron Goosey's home unannounced became suspicious after checks revealed he had deleted a social media messaging app.

The 44-year-old already had 36 convictions including exposure, making indecent images of children and breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and Sex Offenders Register notification requirements. As part of his SHPO, Goosey, 44, is monitored by Cambridgeshire Police's Management of Sexual or Violent Offender (MOSOVO) team.

After the visit by officers in April, Goosey’s phone was seized. It was found to contain 46 indecent images of children and one video of the same nature.

Further checks revealed the images were sent on a messaging app since deleted by Goosey – something he is banned from doing by the terms of his SHPO. Chats on Facebook Messenger had also been deleted and Goosey had failed to tell police of a new alias name he had used, breaching his Sex Offenders Register notification requirements.

Goosey was arrested but denied using the messaging app he had deleted, denied seeing any indecent image and said he had never heard of the alias name. However, he later admitted charges including two counts of making indecent images of children, failing to comply with Sex Offenders Register notification requirements and breaching a SHPO.

At Cambridge Crown Court on Friday (December 8), Goosey, of Pennine Way, Peterborough, was handed a total of two years and six months in prison. He was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and the SHPO already in place was extended indefinitely, to monitor any future offending.

Constable Beckie Hallam, who investigated, said: “The main aim of the MOSOVO team is to protect vulnerable children, whether in the real world or online. Cases such as these help to highlight that work, which most of the time goes on behind the scenes. A child is victimised when an indecent image is taken and every time it is viewed or shared.

“Goosey’s offending shows he had failed to learn his lesson. I hope he now reflects on his actions and he will continue to be monitored by the team on his release from prison.”

A paedophile voyeur who was caught with indecent images of children has been jailed.

Police were made aware in August 2021 that Kyle Spires, 35, had uploaded an indecent image of a child onto the internet in June of that year.

Spires was arrested at a property in March on 22 January 2022.

A mobile phone was seized and later found to contain footage Spires had filmed of a child covertly.

There were also 359 images and three videos of a woman, taken without her knowledge.

Spires was rearrested and another mobile phone seized. He refused to give login details for this mobile phone, despite repeated court orders.

He also failed to comply with Sex Offenders Register requirements that said he needed to inform police if he stayed at a property where under 18s were present for at least 12 hours, and tell police of a new address within three days of moving.

On Friday (1 December), at Peterborough Crown Court, Spires, of Eldern, Orton Malborne, Peterborough, was jailed for two years and four months, having pleaded guilty to taking an indecent photograph of a child, voyeurism, making an indecent photograph of a child, failing to comply with a Section 49 Notice to disclose the key to protected information, failing to comply with Sex Offender Register notification requirements and possession of an offensive weapon in public, relating to a knuckleduster.

He was also given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Sergeant George Neal said: "Spires is clearly a danger to women and children so I am pleased he has faced justice. During this investigation he has shown incredible arrogance and disregard for the law.

A man has been jailed just two days after he exposed himself in front of a mother and her five year-old daughter on a train from Manchester to Birmingham.

Tabrez Ali, 39, and of Vere Road, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to exposure and trespass at Black Country Magistrates’ Court on 5 October.

The judge sentenced him to 18 weeks in prison, he was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge fee of £154 and to sign the sex offenders register for seven years.

The court was told that on Tuesday 3 October 2023, Ali sat opposite the victim and her child. He later removed his trousers, exposing himself. When the victim moved her child, Ali attempted to sit directly next to them.

A male passenger shouted at Ali to “leave them alone”, as the victim and her child moved to the back of the train.

Ali exited the service at Wolverhampton station where he ran across the train tracks to avoid station staff.

A sex offender who breached his notification requirements has been jailed.

Harry Agate, 28, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register in 2017, meaning he is required to notify police within three days of any changes to his circumstances, including his address.

On 20 May, 2022, officers visited Agate at his registered Peterborough address. However, they were told he had moved out following an argument with his housemate.

Agate, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with his requirements. He was sentenced to one year and four months in prison at Cambridge Crown Court.

Detective Constable Faye Patterson said: “Our specialist officers – also known as MOSOVO officers – are trained in the response to and management of sexual or violent offenders and are dedicated to ensuring offenders stick to their requirements.

“I hope this case shows our dedication to bringing those who breach their orders before the courts.”

A paedophile who claimed strangers sent him more than 1,000 indecent images of children has been jailed.

Andris Dozbergs, 56, came to the attention of police after they were alerted that an account on Facebook had uploaded indecent images of a child to the social media platform.

Officers visited his home in Dogsthorpe Road, Peterborough, in May last year and initially he refused to let them in.

However, he eventually complied and a search of his home uncovered two phones and a laptop, together with a can of pepper spray.

He was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images but in police interview, denied having a sexual interest in children.

He claimed strangers had sent him “half naked” images of children, which he did nothing with, and had just remained in his phone.

Dozbergs admitted buying the can of spray in Latvia two years previously for his self-defence – claiming he thought it was pepper and tear gas mixed together.

He was released on bail but arrested again after police visited his home a second time and found more images on further devices.

The electronic devices were found to contain a total of 1,053 indecent images: 419 category C, 371 category B and 263 category A – the most severe.

He was charged with three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of possessing prohibited images of children and one count of possessing a prohibited weapon.

Dozbergs pleaded guilty to the offences at Cambridge Crown Court in July and was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (25 August).

He was handed one year in prison, and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) was put in place for 10 years to monitor any future offending.

A sex offender who grabbed a woman and tried to kiss her has been jailed. Bhavesh Voralia, 50, attacked the victim in a block of flats in The Drive, Peterborough, at about 9am on September 3 2021.

He grabbed her breasts and smacked her, telling her he loved her. The terrified victim then managed to run back to her flat.

On Tuesday (August 8, 2023), at Cambridge Crown Court, Voralia, of The Drive, Peterborough, was jailed for one year, having been found guilty of sexual assault and two counts of failing to comply with Sex Offenders Register notification requirements.

Voralia had been on the register since being convicted of another sexual assault at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on June 13 last year. However, he flew from Heathrow Airport to Ahmedabad in India three days later, meaning he did not notify police within three days of his conviction, of his name, date of birth and home address, as required.

It also meant he’d failed to notify the police no less than seven days in advance of any intended period of foreign travel.

PC Mohsin Raja said: “This was a despicable assault by Voralia and I would like to thank the victim for her cooperation with us in seeking a prosecution.

“In failing to adhere to his notification requirements, he has shown a blatant disregard for the law.”

A man who sent indecent images and videos of himself to what he thought were young girls has been jailed for more than nine years.

Adam Giles, 47, began contacting one of the girls on Snapchat in September 2020.

The girl, who was actually an adult, told him she was 12, but he persisted, sending her messages of a sexual nature, and suggesting he could book a hotel so they could meet.

He asked the girl if she was good at keeping secrets and told her not to tell anyone about their conversations, before sending her an indecent image of himself.

In November 2020 officers executed a warrant at his home in Paston, Peterborough. Giles was arrested and electronic devices seized for examination.

Analysis of two mobile phones and a hard drive revealed 12 indecent images or videos of children. Of these, seven were rated category A the most severe.

Giles was charged, but while on court bail he began sexualised conversations with four more adults he believed were children on the social media platform Kik.

Giles was charged and remanded in relation to these offences in January this year when examination of a new phone took place.

This revealed three other chat streams on the social media platform Kik, with three more girls aged 12, 13 and 14, who were also adults. Giles sent them sexualised content and discussed meeting two of them, despite them being clear about their age at the start of the conversations.

Analysis the phone also revealed 11 indecent images or videos of children five of which were category A.

Giles, of Havelock Drive, Peterborough, admitted attempting to cause or incite a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity, five counts of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child, two counts of arranging or facilitating sexual activity with child and five counts of making indecent images of a child.

On Friday (16 June) at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for 115 months. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order indefinitely.

DC Melanie Bull said: Giles behaviour was absolutely disgusting. He persistently went looking for young girls to approach on social media platforms and did not stop communicating with them when they told him how old they were.

Im pleased he has now appeared in court and faced justice for his actions.

A man’s plan to meet a teenager for sex was foiled when the girl turned out to be an adult who called the police.

Scott Ambrose, 35, booked a Peterborough hotel room on 7 August, 2021, and had also bought alcohol, sex toys and a camera.

He had started talking to the “girl” online a week beforehand and the conversation turned sexual, despite the her making it clear she was only 15.

Ambrose travelled to Peterborough railway station and booked a nearby hotel. However, things turned sour when he was instead met by a member of the public who made a citizen’s arrest and called police.

Officers arrived and Ambrose, of Hallaton Road, Peterborough, was arrested. His home, car and the hotel room were searched where police discovered the items showing intent to engage in sexual activity.

His phone was also seized, analysed and the chat log retrieved in full. It revealed he had sent photos of himself, a video discussing picking her up and taking her to the hotel room and even photos of the hotel room, before leaving to meet her.

In police interview, Ambrose declined to answer questions, however, he later admitted charges of attempting to arrange the commission of a child sex offence and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

Ambrose was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday (16 March), where he was jailed for two years and seven months.

He was also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to monitor any future offending, and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for the same timeframe.

A "callous predator" who followed a woman through a city centre and raped her multiple times has been jailed.

Abbas Abbass, 40, repeatedly attacked the victim in Peterborough in the early hours of 17 December.

He was found guilty of two counts of rape and one of assault by penetration.

Abbass, of Raedwald Court, in Peterborough, was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with a further six years on licence. He has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely.

Cambridgeshire Police said Abbass approached the victim in Bridge Street at about 02:00 and asked her if she wanted him to order her a taxi.

She declined but he tried to kiss her despite being asked to go away.

He left but CCTV showed him following her from a distance. When she got to Town Bridge, she suddenly felt unwell and dizzy.

As she continued along Oundle Road, Abbass caught up with her and raped her twice in the nearby recreation ground.

He ordered a taxi and took her back to his home, where she awoke the next morning feeling scared and confused. Abbass sexually assaulted her while she pretended to be asleep.

When she realised he was not going to stop, she opened her eyes and pushed him away.

He began acting like nothing had happened but she left and called a friend who took her to the police.

Det Con Jake Owen said: "Abbass is a dangerous sexual predator who carried out multiple sexual assaults on the victim, leaving lasting trauma.

"I am pleased we have managed to help put a callous sex offender behind bars and I would like to commend the victim's bravery in coming forward and supporting us with a prosecution."

A Peterborough sex offender has been locked up after he was twice caught performing a sex act near youngsters in Peterborough. Gary Smith, 48, was made subject to sex offender notification requirements in December 2013 and is managed by the force's Public Protection Unit (PPU). He is now behind bars after admitting outraging public decency on two separate occasions in the city. Peterborough Crown Court heard how the first incident took place just after 6pm on May 16 last year, when a man was walking along Henry Street with his teenage daughter. The man noticed Smith sat on a wall and became suspicious, so took his daughter and dog home before returning to the scene and seeing Smith with his hand down his trousers. Three days later, a woman was walking with her children and friend on Queens Walk when she noticed Smith sat on a wall. She recognised him from a social media post and knew him to be a registered sex offender, and as she walked past, an argument began after Smith smiled at one of her children. When Smith was confronted, he became threatening. Then, on August 9, police were called after Smith was seen performing a sex act outside his temporary accommodation near to a childrens play park. Officers arrived and arrested Smith, who in police interview claimed he was stood outside because he was hot, but had his hand down his trousers because his hands were cold. Smith, of Park Road, Peterborough, admitted two counts of outraging public decency and one count of threatening words or behaviour. He was jailed for two years on Thursday at Peterborough Crown Court. Detective Sergeant Andrew Lunn said: Smiths behaviour was disgraceful. Id like to thank the members of the public who didnt feel it was quite right and reported what had happened. We robustly manage registered sex offenders who are living in the community and take any further offences extremely seriously. A paedophile from Cambridgeshire has been sentenced after he messaged girls under the age of 16 until he was caught by a decoy when four 'children' turned out to be adults. The 45-year-old had previously been convicted for making indecent images of children and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.

Neil Higgins, of no fixed address from Peterborough, was caught by police through a decoy after the paedophile believed he had been messaging four young girls on messaging apps between September 17 and October 13 2020. In his messages to the 'young girls' Higgins had requested photos of them in their underwear, asked to meet up with them and asked them to perform sexual acts on themselves.

Higgins was previously convicted in 2014 for making indecent images of children and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years. He came off the register in September 2019 but offended again just a year later.

On October 13, Higgins was linked to the decoy messages after those he had spoken to called the police. Further investigations revealed Higgins had messaged approximately 200 other people, 11 of these indicating they were under the age of 16.

Of the 15 'children' Higgins messaged, the 11 above plus the four decoys, officers established that he caused or incited two of them to engage in sexual activity. He asked 12 profiles for pictures, and told 13 of the profiles that they were ‘sexy’.

At the time of the offences, a search was carried out at his home in Peterborough where numerous items were seized, including a small amount of cannabis. In a police interview, Higgins admitted to sending the messages but stated he never intended to do any of the things he talked about in them – such as meeting the ‘girls’ in person or having sex with them.

Higgins claimed people who wanted to do that were ‘sick in the head’ and said he was not like that. He also told officers he was in a ‘dark place mentally’ which had driven him to offend again.

He was subsequently charged with possessing cannabis, four counts of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and two counts of attempting to cause or incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity. On May 4 at Cambridge Crown Court admitted to the offences.

On Tuesday, July 19 Higgins was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court. Judge Sean Enright told him he had shown a ‘determined and sustained effort to meet young girls for sex’ and had also shown no remorse for his crimes.

He was handed four years and six months in prison, with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to run indefinitely and monitor any future offending. Mark Escott, from the force’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT), said: “We will do all we can to bring those to justice who use the internet in this way - to groom and try to meet children under 16. Higgins’ behaviour was shocking and inappropriate.

“Phones and social media mean children can be vulnerable to those who prey on their innocence and exploit their trust. I would urge parents to speak to their children about online safety and consider exactly who they are communicating with.

“Protecting young people from harm is one of our top priorities and we will continue to work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.”
