Description

A man from Newcastle-under-Lyme has been found guilty of child sexual offences following a trial.

Joseph Riley, 44, of May Bank, was convicted of attempting to cause or incite a child to engage in sexual activity, intentionally touching a child in a sexual manner without consent, three charges of making indecent images of children and two charges of distributing indecent images of a child at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Wednesday (22 April).

Detective Sergeant, Katie Shufflebotham, from child protection, said:

“We welcome this result after what has been a lengthy investigation.

“I would like to thank the victim and their family for their bravery in coming forward.

“They have shown considerable strength in supporting the investigation over the last four-and-a-half years.”

Riley has been remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing date at the same court on Wednesday 10 June.
