Owen Wilson Sentenced for Raping Child Met in South Shields Park
Owen Wilson, now 18, wept in court as he was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday for raping a child he met in a South Shields park.
Wilson was 15 on 19 August 2023 when he was drinking with friends in the park and was introduced to the victim. As the afternoon progressed she was left alone with him and he raped her. The following day the victim told a friend, who informed a family member. Police were contacted and Wilson initially gave a “no comment” interview before pleading guilty to rape.
Judge Penny Moreland sentenced Wilson, of Grace Court, South Shields, who has no previous convictions, to a two-year suspended sentence. He must complete 250 hours of unpaid work and 40 days of rehabilitation activity. He also received a 10-year restraining order and was placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.
Judge Moreland said she had to impose the sentence that would likely have been given at the time of the offence, when Wilson was 15.
