Description
A convicted paedophile is back behind bars after beaching the conditions of a court order.
John Ashcroft, 32, was given a sexual harm prevention order until 2032, following a previous conviction for making indecent images of children.
As part of the conditions of his order police installed monitoring software on his devices to alert them if he tried to access illegal material.
On 15 March 2025, the software on Ashcroft’s device alerted officers to suspicious activity on his account.
Police seized Ashcroft’s computer and mobile phone for forensic examination and discovered indecent images of children on both.
Ashcroft, of Judson Court, Huntingdon, was arrested and pleaded guilty to breaching his sex offender requirements and three counts of making indecent images of children.
He was sentenced to one year and one month in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday (1 October).
Detective Constable Kerry Howard, from the force’s management of sexual offenders and violent offenders team (MOSOVO), said:
“Officers from MOSOVO will always check on convicted sex offenders in the county to make sure they are adhering to their conditions and court orders.
“In this case, pre-installed software helped us uncover further offences and bring Ashcroft to justice.”
