The parents of a girl who spoke up about a serious sexual assault she was subjected to have praised her bravery as her attacker was today given a 30-year extended sentence.

Stephen Jeffries had abused three girls over almost two decades, with those he targeted aged as young as 11.

The 35-year-old, who was described by the judge as being considered a most dangerous offender was also put on the sexual offender register for life and given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order until further notice.

He was arrested following a break-in at a Birmingham home in December 2024, during which a girl was sexually assaulted.

Through forensic evidence, investigators identified a suspect within days of the offence and arrested Jeffries from his home in Northfield on 12 December, 2024.

Specialist officers worked with the girl and her family, to establish exactly what she had been through and offered them support as the investigation developed.

Today her parents have shared some of the victim statements they gave to the court as Jeffries was jailed.

Her father, said:

"Life is incredibly challenging for women, who regularly face a world where their safety and dignity are threatened.

"I deeply admire my daughter for her courage in standing up against this injustice; it truly reflects her remarkable strength and character.

"No parent should ever have to watch their child endure this kind of pain.

"While I know no sentence or decision can undo the harm that has been done, I hope the court will take into account the devastating impact this crime has had—not just on her, but on all of us who love her.

"I want justice, not just for my family, but also to send a message to others: that actions like this cannot and will not be tolerated."

While her mother said: "Stephen Jeffries may have found her at her most vulnerable that night but what he did not realise is what a brave girl she truly is.

"The same strong girl that spoke up, she has done what most adults cannot face doing let alone a minor, her braveness is why we are all stood in this room today to ensure consequences are faced.

"No matter what sentence is given here today, no sentence will be as long as the one my daughter has been given as this will be with her for the rest of her life."

Jeffries was also further charged with sexually assaulting two other girls, with those offences dating back to between 2005 and 2024.

Today at Birmingham Crown Court the judge, His Honour Judge Dean Kershaw, also commended the bravery of the victims and their families in the case.

In passing a sentence of 22 years custody and eight years on an extended license, he described Jeffries as being a very high risk to the public, and that he had imposed the extended sentence to protect the public.

"Their strength, fortitude and resilience attending every court hearing, has meant we have been able to bring a dangerous and deviant perpetrator to justice.

“It is down to the courage and bravery of these victims reporting and recounting the horrific details of the crimes committed against them, alongside the support and dedication of officers, that ensured that the defendant had no option but to enter guilty pleas.

“This sentence means he has now been imprisoned and is unable to harm others.

"I would encourage anyone who has been victim of abuse to report this to the police.

“Even years after an attack or sexual abuse has ended, we will listen and can give support as we work through a case to hopefully bring them justice for the ordeal they have been subjected to.“

Description

A man has been convicted of rape and controlling behaviour after subjecting a woman to months of abuse.

The woman bravely came forward in September 2024 disclosing she has been raped by Mark Williams at an address in Walsall.

During a video recorded interview, she also told officers that Williams had limited her access to her finances and contact with her friends and family. He also installed hidden cameras in her home.

The woman was able to show officers text messages from Williams, and we were able to gather supporting evidence from family members.

Williams, aged 40 was arrested three days after the woman reported the sexual and controlling abuse.

He was then consequently charged with rape and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour.

On 10 March, Williams of Hockley Close, Birmingham admitted the charges part way through a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

He is due to be sentenced on 19 May.

“The woman in this case has been pivotal to securing a conviction for Williams. She has shown incredible bravery and resilience during the process.

“Coercive and controlling behaviour can develop over time during a relationship and can make it difficult for people to come forward. We encourage people who see victims of coercive behaviour and notice the signs to report it to us.”

A man has been jailed after attempting to rape a teenager in a Solihull park.

On 6 June last year, Dago Williams began chatting to a group of teenagers on a bus towards Chelmsley Wood.

He told the group he had ‘a lot of money’ and added the group on Snapchat. Williams, aged 22, got off the bus with the group and stole cans of alcoholic drinks from a supermarket which he offered to the group.

Shortly after, Williams and one of the girls from the group, a 17-year-old, sat on a bench in Meridan Park. He tried to kiss her which she refused. He then sexually assaulted and attempted to rape the girl.

When the girl managed to stand up Williams then punched and hit her face. He then strangled her, causing her to fall to the floor. Williams threw her bag into the bushes nearby as the girl managed to run away.

She was able to scream and shout for help and ran to a friend’s house and called police.

Officers were able to identify Williams through a detailed description and his Snapchat username he gave to the girl.

He was then arrested and charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, intentional strangulation, assault and shop theft.

Williams of Hampton Road, Erdington admitted all offences at an earlier hearing and was sentenced to nine years and six months at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday (17 Feb).

A former agency worker at a Birmingham mosque has been jailed for a campaign of rape and sexual abuse against boys as young as nine. 

Said Daauud groomed the youngsters – buying them sweets, AirPods, computer games and mobile phones – to win over their trust. 

In all, he abused five boys – the oldest was just 14-years-old. 

Daauud was an agency IT support worker at the mosque, which cannot be named for legal reasons, but stopped working there in February 2022. He continued to attend the mosque and was well known to the congregation. 

Our investigation began in May 2022 when the mothers of two of the children revealed that Daauud had been grooming their children. He had stayed overnight at one of the boys’ houses and touched them inappropriately.  

He used WhatsApp and Snapchat to groom one of the boys and asked for him to send indecent images of himself. Well over 4,000 messages were sent, where he tried to normalise his behaviour and encouraged them to tell him that they love him. 

He told one of them: “It’s OK, you can do this” while carrying out the abuse. 

Daauud, of Rudgewick Croft, Aston, answered ‘no comment’ in interview. 

But specially trained officers took statements from the young boys and CCTV from the mosque captured some of his inappropriate physical contact with them.

It meant we could charge him with one rape, nine sexual assaults and four other officers of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. 

One boy told us:

“Said has betrayed my trust. He was a friend, like a big brother. I now struggle to trust adults, because he was someone who I trusted as a true friend.

“This whole situation has made me feel overwhelmed and I just want things to go back to normal.” 

Another said:

“Although I knew it was really wrong, I still tried to see the positives in Said. However, as the months have passed I have more of an understanding of how Said had manipulated me and taken advantage of me and my body.

“I feel so betrayed by him, I can’t even begin to describe this.” 

One of the boy's parents said: “Said has taken advantage of the boys being at the Masjid, a place where children should feel and be safe.” 

After a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, he was found guilty of all charges. 

Appearing on 6 February at Birmingham Crown Court he was jailed for 16 years, and ordered to remain on licence for a further five years after that period. 

Daauud was also ordered to abide by a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely and indefinite restraining orders against each of the children he attacked.

DS Thomas Finney, from our public protection unit’s child abuse team, said:

“Daauud has showed no remorse throughout this and has taken the case to trial, which meant that these children had to go through the ordeal of giving evidence and being cross examined. We have made sure they’ve been supported through the process. 

“He’s used his position within the community to build up a real level of trust with families, who were happy to let him stay the night and care for their children. 

“He abused that trust in the most appalling way, with a series of appalling sexual attacks on really young members of the community. 

“It was only when one of the boys revealed what was happening to his family that the alarm was raised and the full extent of what was happening came to light. 

“We worked closely with the management at the mosque, who were supportive of the police investigation. They provided us with CCTV footage, statements and details of the children involved to get us to these convictions. 

“I’d like to thank each of the boys and their families for their bravery and support in helping us put this dangerous sexual predator behind bars. Our thoughts are with them today.”

A man who raped a woman in Newcastle-under-Lyme has been jailed for nearly a decade.

Daniel Tyrone Hemmings, 34, of Birmingham, has been sentenced to nine-years-and-six-months behind bars at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Friday (5 December) after he was found guilty of the rape of a woman at an earlier hearing. He pleaded guilty to harassment without violence, sending communication threatening death or serious harm, failing to comply with notification requirements of the Sex Offender’s Register and stalking involving serious harm and distress.

He made unwanted advances on the survivor and ignored her efforts to stop him when it happened in 2021.

A few days after, the survivor bravely came forward and told us what Hemmings had done. He was arrested and brought in for questioning, where he denied the offence.

Due to the survivor’s bravery and the quality of our evidence, we secured the charges against him and took him to court. He continued to plead his innocence in relation to the rape offence, but the jury deemed him guilty.

As part of his sentencing, Hemmings was served with a restraining order. He was also ordered to pay a £228 financial penalty.

“Hemmings tried until the last minute to deceive the jury, but because of how strong the survivor was and our evidence, he has now been punished for his crimes.

“I’d like to commend her bravery in coming forward and I hope this shows other survivors that we are determined to act robustly against sex offenders in Staffordshire.”

A man has been found guilty of multiple offences including the rape of a teenage girl, sexual assault of another teenager and abduction.

Kassam Hussain was found guilty of nine offences by unanimous verdict at Birmingham Crown Court last Thursday (4 December).

The two-week trial heard how Hussain raped a teenage girl in September 2024.

He also groomed and sexually assaulted another teenage girl in the same month, then abducted her in May 2025.

Hussain also abducted a third teenage girl in May 2025.

The girls have since been safeguarded, and we continue to offer them support having undergone the horrific ordeal.

Hussain, of Antrobus Road, Handsworth Wood, will be sentenced in February 2026.

A Birmingham rapist who groomed a 15-year-old girl on Snapchat was caught after she bravely called police pretending to order a pizza—a code she'd seen in a TikTok video about sexual assault.

On July 28, after 41-year-old Abdul Kahar raped and sexually assaulted her in his car, he abandoned the quick-thinking victim roadside in Druids Heath. She dialed 999 and asked for a pizza.

The West Midlands Police call-handler recognized the distress signal, using yes-or-no questions to confirm: "Are you in danger?" "Yeah," she replied. The girl provided her exact location and Kahar's car details, enabling officers to trace him to his Anthony Road home in Alum Rock.

Kahar had posed as a 17-year-old boy named "Jay" on Snapchat since June, luring her with alcohol before the July assault.

On December 1 at Birmingham Crown Court, he pleaded guilty to two counts of raping a girl under 16, four counts of sexual assault on a girl over 13, non-fatal strangulation, and breaching a sexual harm prevention order. Sentencing is set for February 9.

Detective Constable Lauren Campbell of West Midlands Police said:

"Kahar posed as a 17-year-old boy on Snapchat and groomed a vulnerable 15-year-old girl online for a period of time before she agreed to meet up with him. He then raped and sexually assaulted her in his car. I want to praise the brave actions of the girl and also praise the call handler for having the foresight to understand this was a call for help from someone who was vulnerable and in danger."

A man from Birmingham has been jailed for raping a boy on multiple occasions and possessing hundreds of indecent photographs and videos of children.

Mohammed Ali, aged 23, was arrested after the person he abused disclosed the sexual abuse which had been going on for a number of years to us.

When we arrested Ali, from Onisbury Road, Handsworth, we discovered 443 indecent images and videos on his phone, 250 of these being category A.

At Birmingham Crown Court on 27 November, Ali pleaded guilty to eight charges of rape, four of those being the rape of a boy under 13. He also pleaded guilty to three charges of distributing indecent images of a child.

He was handed an 18 year jail term, 12 years to be served in custody and six on license.

“Ali took advantage of a vulnerable young boy raping him on a number of occasions over a number of years.

“The boy bravely came forward to report the sexual abuse to us and we must praise him for the courage he has shown in what has been a very sensitive investigation.”

A Birmingham man who subjected a woman to a brutal assault in Walsall has been convicted of rape.

Simon Tang was convicted at Birmingham Crown Court following the attack on a sex worker near a car park in Birmingham Street, Walsall, on 5 May.

Bravely the woman came to us and told us of the ordeal she had been subjected to. She has been supported throughout her recovery and during the investigation by our specially trained teams.

During the assault she was hit repeatedly with a baseball bat which Tang had got from the boot of his car, leaving her with extensive bruising to her legs and head.

Specialist public protection officers worked with her to put together a case which saw her 56-year-old attacker convicted of two counts of rape, possessing an offensive weapon and actual bodily harm.

Tang, of Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, will be sentenced on January 30.

DS Morgan Colley, from the investigation team, said:  “I would like to commend the bravery of the woman in this case as without her support we would not have been able to secure a positive outcome at court.

"This man posed a real danger to women and thanks to her, he has now been convicted of his crimes and remanded in custody ahead of sentence."

A rapist who sexually abused three young girls during the 1990s and early 2000s has been convicted of historic sex crimes.

Peter King lured in and groomed the three children, who were between 6 and 15yrs at the time, by taking them on swimming trips, buying them clothing and food and then taking them back to his flat in Highgate, Birmingham.

King, now aged 72, worked as a taxi driver at the time and used his black cab to ferry around the girls and sometimes their friends too.

One girl he abused, who was 15 at the time, became pregnant by King before having a termination.

She bravely revealed this information years later to help our Public Protection Unit (PPU) prosecute him for his appalling actions.

Following the trial, which concluded at Birmingham Crown Court last Friday (31 October), King, of Malin Close, Southampton, was convicted of 15 sex offences, including multiple incidents if rape and indecent assault.

He was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on 12 January.

“This has been a long and complex investigation into the abuse of young girls who were groomed by King.

"He preyed upon them when they were at their most vulnerable.

"He took advantage of their own personal circumstances and gave them pocket money, bought them gifts, clothing and food and took them on day trips and holidays.

"He tried to portray that he was a good man who cared for them, but the jury saw through those lies.

"I’m pleased that the women he abused as children all those years ago have finally received the justice they so deserve.

"I commend their bravery in being able to speak out and share their stories and

Description

Anthony Nash has been sentenced to life imprisonment for multiple rapes of two children and an adult in Cardiff.

His offences were reported to South Wales Police when the victims bravely came forward.

Two days later Nash was arrested at his home address in Birmingham.

The 47-year-old denied the allegations when interviewed but was charged and later pleaded guilty to all 13 rape offences.

He was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Wednesday, October 15 to life imprisonment and was told he must serve a minimum of 15 years before being considered for release.

The court heard that Nash had carried out a campaign of abuse and was considered a dangerous offender.

“These are horrific offences against the most vulnerable victims.

“I want to commend the victims for their incredible bravery and the courage they showed in coming forward, sharing what had happened, and supporting the investigation.

“I hope that the outcome at court brings them some comfort that the offender has been brought to some justice and that their bravery has helped protect the wider public from harm.”

A man has been jailed for multiple sex offences including rape.

Jayke Bullivant was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to multiple offences including rape, attempted rape, sexual abuse of a child and inciting a child in sexual activity.

The 19-year-old from Sutton Coldfield admitted the offences at Birmingham Crown Court on 14 October last year, and he was jailed last Wednesday (8 October).

The investigation started back in December 2023 when Bullivant was found to be with a child who was reported missing to us. He was then charged with several inciting a child to engage in sexual activity offences.

Officers continued to investigate and found that Bullivant had raped a child on two separate occasions, and as a result, he was further charged.

Bullivant, of Falcon Lodge Crescent, has been jailed for nine years with an extended licence for eight years, and he was given a sexual harm prevention order, and will be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

A VIOLENT rapist who carried out six sex attacks in Worcester has been jailed for ten years.

Bryan Lilley, who is formerly from Worcester but whose address in court was given as Reaside Clinic, Bristol Road South, Rednal, Birmingham, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court sitting at Redditch on Thursday (September 17).

The 30-year-old was convicted of four rapes and two counts of assault by penetration.

All the attacks took place between New Year's Day, 2021 and May 26,

Lilley had pleaded not guilty to the charges but was found guilty following a trial on April 4 this year.

And at court, His Honour Judge Nicholas Cole sentenced Lilley to ten years' imprisonment in total.

For each rape, he was sentenced to ten years to run concurrently.

He was sentenced to eight years for each of the two assaults by penetration convictions, also to run concurrently.

Lilley will also be on the sex offenders' register upon his release.

A man has been convicted of abducting a child and sexually assaulting her at a house in Birmingham.

Mohammed Abdulraziq, aged 32, was found guilty of false imprisonment with intent to commit a sexual offence, sexual assault of a female under 13 and an assault on a woman following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

Abdulraziq was discovered in a house with a five-year-old on the afternoon of March 30.

The girl had been playing in the street when Abdulraziq took her into a house.

The girl’s mother and her friend searched for her daughter and heard crying coming from inside a house. Her friend looked through the window and saw a man inside a room with the girl.

The man then punched her through the window as she tried to climb in. Entry was then forced into the house by members of the public who detained him until we were called and our officers arrived and arrested him. He will be sentenced at a later date.

Detective Sergeant Nicky Simms, from our Central Complex Child Abuse Investigation Team, said:

“Abdulraziq was a predatory individual who took a young girl off the street and into his house. Fortunately, incidents of this nature are rare.

“I must praise the courage of the girl and her mother in what has been a very sensitive investigation.”

A man has been found guilty of raping an 18-year-old girl in his Birmingham flat hours after meeting her on the 'Roomies' website.

A jury also convicted Mirza Begg of strangling and threatening the victim with a knife at his address in Coventry Road, Small Heath.

The 33-year-old denied full sexual intercourse, claiming he was diabetic and could not maintain an erection without medication, and said other sexual contact was consensual.

But following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, the jury found him guilty of rape, two charges of assault by penetration, strangulation, making threats with an offensive weapon, and assault by beating.

Begg was remanded into custody ahead of sentencing on December 5.

Judge Simon Drew KC ordered a pre-sentence report to assess if he was a 'dangerous' offender.

He said:

"On the face of it he targeted and exploited a vulnerable young woman

"It raises issues as to whether he poses a risk to other members of the public going forward."

Begg responded to the teenager's Roomies post on March 17 last year, offering free accommodation, which made her suspect a 'scam'; he sent a video of the property.

He picked her up at 9pm and took her to his flat, then left briefly to return a car.

Upon returning, he asked her to join him in the bedroom, rolled a spliff, and told her to get in bed.

Begg started touching her; when she said she felt uncomfortable, he told her to 'shhh' and laughed.

He proceeded to rape and sexually assault her as she repeatedly said 'no' and tried to fight him off.

Begg also slapped her and threatened her with a knife.

Afterward, the victim texted a friend: 'he fell asleep, I just got raped'; the friend reported it to police.

Begg was arrested at 4:30am that morning.
